I first started breeding Escallonia in 1991and in 1999 I successfully marketed two Escallonia 'Everest' and Escallonia Red Carpet.. Ten years later, Neil Alcock of Seiont Nursery in Wales found a golden shoot on Escallonia Red Carpet and this was launched as Escallonia Golden Carpet.. This inspired me to set up a new breeding programme out of which came Escallonia 'Good as Gold'.
